Even pediatricians have to learn how to trust their gut.
This week on the podcast, Dr. Mona Amin from PedsDocTalk stopped by to share what happened after a traumatic delivery when she felt something was deeply wrong in her body.
Doctors chalked it up to anxiety. But she kept pressing.
And she was right. That quiet, persistent knowing may have saved her life.
There’s a kind of wisdom that doesn’t come from books or experts. It’s not mystical or magical. It’s practical, embodied, lived.
It’s a deep, body-level knowing that sharpens the more you pay attention. And it doesn’t just apply to your kids. It shows up when you start listening to yourself again.
And science backs this up. Studies show what we call “intuition” is often the result of repeated, attuned experience, a relationship you build with your body over time.
Recent research shows that maternal intuition is something learned and embodied over time, a result of repeated caregiving and emotional attunement. It's not instant. It grows.
And more than that, studies show nearly 30% of women say their medical concerns have been dismissed by a provider.
Studies done just over the last two years show that women are often under‑treated, misdiagnosed, or dismissed when they report pain or discomfort.
A 2024 study found that women arriving at emergency departments are significantly less likely than men, even with the same symptoms, to receive timely, adequate pain care.
A 2025 review of gender bias in pain assessment and treatment found that women, especially in contexts like chronic or gynecological pain, are less likely than men to receive adequate pain relief, and their reports are more often dismissed or reduced to psychological causes.
Research shows this isn’t a rare fluke, it’s systemic. Pain and other women’s health complaints are frequently evaluated through a lens of gender‑bias that labels valid physical symptoms as ‘emotional’ or ‘psychosomatic.’
That means when something feels off in your body, and no one’s listening, it’s not irrational to trust yourself.
It’s essential.
If you’re in a season where that voice feels buried under stress, noise, or guilt, I made something for you.
Sending you big hugs,
Krissy 💛
